๐Ÿ“– Pinyin Guide

Why shipping labels need tone-free pinyin

International couriers, bills of lading, passports and overseas platforms require tone-free pinyin because foreign systems cannot store tone marks. Convention: surname first (ZHANG Wei), place names as capitalized words (Zhejiang, Ningbo), street elements translated (No. 555, Keji Road).

This tool runs pinyin-pro locally in your browser โ€” names and addresses never leave your device โ€” and outputs ALL CAPS, Capitalized and lowercase variants with one-click copy.

Tricky exceptions

Some place names use official spellings that differ from pinyin: Shaanxi (not Shanxi), Xiamen, Hohhot, Urumqi, Lhasa. Polyphonic surnames (ๆ›พ/ๅ•/ไป‡) default to their most common reading โ€” always cross-check passports and B/L documents.

โ“ FAQ

How should a Chinese name be split?

Surname first, given name as one word: ZHANG Wei. Passport, ticket and B/L spellings must match exactly.

Road or Lu?

International mail convention prefers Road/Street with No.; courier labels accept pinyin too. Keep consistency with your platform records.
